What is changing?
According to USI's official retirement FAQs, its VM hosting, web hosting and authoritative DNS services end November 11, 2026. Web hosting and virtual machines will not be migrated automatically, and USI says it is not providing managed VM migration as part of the retirement. The notice also covers several separate email, firewall and network services, which may require different specialist replacements.
A website's DNS and its VM or hosting infrastructure may be different services. Confirm whether USI hosts your domain's authoritative DNS, websites, and VMs separately. Losing authoritative DNS can also interrupt email delivery and other services that do not run on USI servers.
Check the provider's official notice ↗ and any account-specific communications before deciding when to migrate.
Plan the move before the service ends
- Identify every affected VM, web application, domain, DNS zone, database, certificate, scheduled job and external integration. Identify whether business mail, filtering, VPN or firewall functions depend on USI.
- Obtain and verify off-provider exports: website files and databases, VM application data, system and network configuration, and available DNS zone files. Do not send private keys or access credentials through this form.
- Evaluate compatible replacement infrastructure and calculate CPU, memory, storage, OS, licenses, IP/network requirements and data-location needs. Confirm capacity before committing a cutover date.
- Deploy a staging restoration, verify application and database functionality, review TLS and authentication, and plan replacement DNS records with suitable time-to-live values.
- After explicit customer approval, switch traffic and DNS as appropriate, then verify website behavior, notifications, scheduled tasks and recovery. Coordinate email or firewall changes with the chosen specialist provider where necessary.
What we need to assess your server or site
- Current provider and exact service or plan name
- Domain(s), operating system, applications, databases, and background jobs
- CPU, RAM, storage consumption, and typical traffic where applicable
- Recent backup status, recovery requirements, and tolerance for downtime
- DNS, email, firewall, certificate, integration, and IP-dependent dependencies
Independent migration support
TheAppGuy can review the workload and propose a supported destination, a migration scope, and an estimate. Any backup access, copying, test deployment or DNS cutover requires the customer's approval. We confirm compatibility and available capacity before making a commitment.
We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or officially endorsed by US Internet / Securence. A migration assessment is not a guarantee that we can accept every workload.
