ControlVM is retiring infrastructure hosting. Plan your server migration.

ControlVM announced an October 31, 2026 end date for its VPS, cloud servers, dedicated servers, colocation and related managed infrastructure services. If your workloads are still running there, plan a tested migration before the deadline.

What is changing?

ControlVM has announced the discontinuation of cloud servers, VPS, dedicated servers, colocation and related server-management services. Its notice warns that hosting data and backups in the affected infrastructure will be deleted after the service closes.

Back up and independently verify all critical files, databases and configurations before October 31. For colocated equipment, coordinate physical retrieval with ControlVM; TheAppGuy does not offer to retrieve hardware.

Check the provider's official notice ↗ and any account-specific communications before deciding when to migrate.

Plan the move before the service ends

  1. Inventory every affected server, hostname, operating system, assigned IP, database, firewall rule, email service and scheduled task.
  2. Take fresh off-provider backups, including databases and deployment configuration, and test at least one restoration before the original service becomes unavailable.
  3. Select replacement hosting only after sizing storage, CPU, memory, bandwidth and required data location, and confirming available capacity and compatibility.
  4. Recreate the environment on the target, restore data, and test application functions, authentication, certificates and scheduled jobs before public cutover.
  5. With authorization, schedule DNS and connectivity changes, monitor traffic after cutover, and cancel the original service only after successful verification.

What we need to assess your server or site

  • Current provider and exact service or plan name
  • Domain(s), operating system, applications, databases, and background jobs
  • CPU, RAM, storage consumption, and typical traffic where applicable
  • Recent backup status, recovery requirements, and tolerance for downtime
  • DNS, email, firewall, certificate, integration, and IP-dependent dependencies

Independent migration support

TheAppGuy can review the workload and propose a supported destination, a migration scope, and an estimate. Any backup access, copying, test deployment or DNS cutover requires the customer's approval. We confirm compatibility and available capacity before making a commitment.

We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or officially endorsed by ControlVM. A migration assessment is not a guarantee that we can accept every workload.
